Important announcement about HTSB and email

Change in law may impact teachers with out of state licenses

HTSB rule changes to administrative rules

With No Child Left Behind looming over teachers’ heads, there is understandable anxiety about the validity of teachers’ licenses and highly qualified status. The HTSB and DOE have agreed that unless HTSB informs the DOE that a teacher’s license has been suspended or revoked, the teacher’slicense status is intact. With this in mind, to be deemed “highly qualified”, a teacher of core subjects must be teaching in his/her license field and must demonstrate subject matter expertise through the avenues allowed by the DOE. read more

Important announcement about HTSB and email (October 22, 2007): Recently it has come to our attention that some client email messages were never received by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB) staff. We are looking into this matter to determine and remedy the cause since it is our goal to provide quality service to our clients. To avoid this circumstance happening again, we are immediately implementing the following steps:

Every time the HTSB staff receives an email, a message confirming receipt of the email will be automatically sent so the sender will know definitively that his/her email has been received at the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board office. Since the turnaround time between your sending a message and receiving our confirmation varies from one Internet service provider to another, please allow yourself at least a day to receive our confirmation email. If, after a day, you still have not received our confirmation, please forward or resend your original message because we do not want to miss hearing from you. The Hawaii Teacher Standards Board apologizes for not receiving past emails and hopes this new effort will be of value to you.

Change in law may impact teachers with out of state licenses (July 24, 2007): Teachers who currently hold a valid un-revoked license from another state may be able to use that license to earn their Hawaii teaching license. Under a law containing provisions recommended by our Board and passed during the last legislative session, the Board may now issue licenses to teachers who meet the criteria spelled out in the law. read more
